VIC/TAS Principals' Retreat

VIC/TAS Principals' Retreat

Given the tumultuous end to 2021, we hope you might join us in the Macedon Ranges at the beginning of 2022 for a time of relationship building, relaxation, recuperation and reorientation. We have selected a remote, and well-appointed venue such that colleagues might feel removed from their day-day pressures; we want you to leave refreshed and professionally stimulated.

Important Event Information

For existing leaders, we have planned a rich two-day program, once again carefully designed to encourage closer and longstanding collegial relationships but also to support individual professional growth. Our Director of Research and Innovation, Dr Darren Iselin, will be joining us as we both unpack CSA’s new Leadership Framework, Called Connected and Committed. Over four sessions, we will open up that framework together and explore theoretically, and very practically, what it means to be a leader of vision, culture, faith and practice. This will be no seminar room slog but applied learning within the context of carefully crafted team exercises, which will I promise will be as fun as they are rewarding.

And, it goes without saying that there will be time given over to your own personal recreation with great food and fellowship punctuating our time together throughout.

Something a little bit different...

For those new Principal postholders (and not merely new to the role but existing leaders moving within our school group), we would like invite you to join us the afternoon before and get to know each other as a cohort. We will be throwing a welcome dinner for our new Principal postholders on the Wednesday evening and facilitating an additional taught element the following morning, before the rest of the party join us on the Thursday lunchtime for our event opening. Please see the event registration options, below, for more information.

Event Registration Options

As outlined in the Important Event Information section, above, you will have a choice of two registration options:

  • Registration - Seasoned Principal: this registration option will include one night's accommodation, all meals and activities ($750 +GST)
  • Registration - New Principal Postholder: this registration option will include two night's accommodation, all meals and activities, as well as the welcome dinner on the Wednesday evening (950 +GST)

Please ensure you select the relevant registration option when you register.

Speakers

Your Host: Dr. Rob Loe

Rob has been serving as the Executive Officer, VIC/TAS since May 2020. He has a background in teaching, school leadership and research. Rob believes passionately that a Christian school’s ethos cannot be divorced from the outcomes it seeks for its students (which must be more than academic). That ethos should make a deeply positive impact on the day-to-day lived reality of corridors and classrooms. It is the most powerful form of witness from a school. Rob has a national portfolio role that reflects his significant experience and research interests: Organisational Culture and Community Development.

Dr. Darren Iselin

Darren has extensive leadership experience within Christian education in both Australian and international contexts and has served in a wide range of CEO/executive and senior leadership roles within both K-12 schooling and higher education sectors. He is currently Director of Research and Innovation with Christian Schools Australia (CSA) and also is the Coordinator for the Cardus Education Survey Australia Project. Darren has completed extensive formal study, including doctoral studies through the University of Queensland where his PhD explored “How Principals are cultivating Sustainable School Cultures Within Christian Schools During Changing Times”. Darren’s thesis was awarded the Grassie-Basset prize for best thesis in Educational Administration from The University of Queensland and also won the Research in Educational Leadership Management Award from the Australian Council of Educational Leaders (ACEL).
