The NLS Governance Symposium will showcase a series of short-form, thought-provoking sessions that boards can work through, throughout a normal year cycle.
As a board, you have a wealth of highly technical and industry specific materials that can assist you in the day-to-day governance of the school. In contrast, what we aim to do is provide you with an opportunity to step back – just for a moment – and evaluate the "why" behind what you do. Through discussion, short videos, insightful content and realistic case studies, we want to give you an opportunity you may rarely get in a governance context: the opportunity to reflect on your sacred mission.
As part of this Symposium, we will be launching a newly-developed resource called: Missional Governance – Boards that Transform. The resource includes a playbook, videos, relatable content and case studies, as well as questions for deeper understanding and reflection.
Through each of the sessions in this resource you will find a very simple structure. Each session should only take about 20 minutes of your time and is a great way to kick-start a board meeting and refine your overall approach to governance.
We know how busy a board environment can be, but rather than using that as an excuse to ignore the big questions we want to challenge you to see your busyness as a reason to engage with this content in all of its fullness. You can use these sessions as a way of opening up each board meeting, a way to get people thinking and focussing on the reason you are gathered together. After all, a school board is more than just a group of overseers, you are the ones holding the vision and mission of the school.
The goal of this symposium is to enable boards to engage in missional governance, so that they become boards that transform.

Registration at this event will include a published copy of the Missional Governance Playbook associated with the new program, as well as a published copy of CSA's Services & Support Guide, and CSA's Strategic Plan.*
Schools gathering with their board and/or leadership teams will be able to work together during the break-out sessions. There will also be a range of virtual break-out rooms for those who are unable to gather in person. Please ensure you indicate your preference of breakout room as you go through the Registration process.

Speakers
Your Host: Dr. Rob Loe
Rob has been serving as the Executive Officer, VIC/TAS since May 2020. He has a background in teaching, school leadership and research. Rob believes passionately that a Christian school’s ethos cannot be divorced from the outcomes it seeks for its students (which must be more than academic). That ethos should make a deeply positive impact on the day-to-day lived reality of corridors and classrooms. It is the most powerful form of witness from a school. Rob has a national portfolio role that reflects his significant experience and research interests: Organisational Culture and Community Development.
Tracy Holmes
Having been involved in education for many years in both the public and private sectors, at both primary and secondary levels and in specialized programs, Tracy was a school principal for 23 years before moving to a more strategic role as Director of Education for the Carey Group. Tracy is also the WA State Chair of Christian Schools Australia WA and a National Council member.
Mark Spencer
Mark is responsible for advocacy on behalf of Christian schools in a wide range of educational policy as well as areas relating to religious freedom and equal opportunity and discrimination law, both at the Commonwealth and State/Territory level. Mark also provides initial advice to schools in all non-educational operations including funding, finance, governance, management, media management and industrial relations. Mark is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants after graduating with a Bachelor of Business degree with a major in accounting. He went on to complete a Master of Labour Relations and Law degree in 1999 and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies with a High Distinction average in 2016. Mark is also a Graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and a Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia. In 2014 he completed an executive education program at the Said Business School of the University of Oxford.
Jill Healey
Jill's portfolio within Christian Schools Australia is Leadership Development, serving as the Flame and Fuse Facilitator. Jill currently serves on two Christian school boards, is a Board member for Focus on the Family Australia and the Victorian Independent Schools Block Grant Authority. Jill is a champion of Christian women in leadership and specialist education provision in Christian schools. She believes in the power of God to transform lives and bring hope to young people through Christian schooling.
Dr. Daniel Pampuch
Dr Daniel Pampuch was appointed CEO of Christian Schools Australia in January 2017. His role spans political advocacy, governance, strategic planning, resource development and service provision. His role centres on assisting schools to retain their Christian distinctive and missional focus, as well as guiding them on pathways to further maturity as ministries and centres of educational excellence. Daniel has served on a range of state and national educational boards and committees. Currently he serves on the Global council of ACSI which supports 24,000 schools globally. Daniel has fellowships with the Governance Institute of Australia and Australian Institute of Management. He is a member of the Australian College of Education Leaders and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Cancellation Policy
All cancellations must be made in writing to the Event Organiser.
No refunds will be issued after 3 days out from the event. Any cancellations made after this date will be charged the full registration fee. 'No Shows' to the event will be charged the full registration fee.
The event program is subject to change without prior notice.
Registration fees do not include insurance to cover loss of any fees/deposit through cancellation of your participation in the event or through cancellation of the event itself.
A full refund will be issued if the event is cancelled by the organiser (CSA) due to COVID-19 restrictions or any other reasons out of the organisers control.
