Inquiry into the status of the freedom of religion or belief

Late last year the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade, Human Rights Sub-Committee announced that it would be conducting an Inquiry into the status of the human right to freedom of religion or belief. The Terms of Reference and further details are included on the Committee's website here.

In collaboration with Adventist Schools Australia (ASA), CSA made a detailed submission to the Committee last week in time for the initial deadline. This has now been extended to 28 April should schools was to make a submission.

The joint submission focussed on the key issues around the employment of staff within Christian schools and the essential nature of the freedom to employ those staff in a way reflecting the faith and belief of the school community.
