CSA provides information, advice and resources to member schools nationally on staff relations, employment and workplace relations matters. The integration of a Christian perspective into school employment practices is our specialty and this makes Christian Schools Australia unique among associations that provide such services. Initial advice can also be provided in staffing matters involving key staff or affecting religious freedom issues. More in-depth support can be provided on a cost recovery basis or referrals can be made to experienced practitioners in the relevant areas. In some states, schools receive these additional services through payment of an additional annual fee, see below.

Staff Relations Service

CSA’s Staff Relations Service (SRS) seeks to support the school with its staff relations so that the school can reflect its Christian distinctive in all its communication and practices with their staff. SRS provides information and guidance on industrial relations and employment related matters including negotiation of enterprise agreements and comprehensive support through any employment disputes.

Reporting Authorities

The Office of the Children’s Guardian operates the reportable conduct scheme in NSW. In March 2020, the Children’s Guardian Act 2019 (NSW) commenced, which created changes to the scheme. All schools in NSW are covered by the reportable conduct scheme and must notify the Children’s Guardian in 7 days of being made aware of a reportable allegation or conviction.

The Act Ombudsman Office oversees the responses of particular organisations in the ACT to allegations of abuse or misconduct by any employees that involves children. All schools in the ACT are captured by the reportable conduct scheme and must notify the Ombudsman Office within 30 days of being made aware of a reportable allegation or conviction.
