Celebrating Change at the ISQ State Forum

18 June 2021

Executive Officer, Andrew Taylor, recently attended the ISQ State Forum, which was themed "Celebrating Change".

The first keynote was entitled "Teaching for Tomorrow" and was delivered by Michael McQueen, a futurist with a keen interest in education. Michael had three interesting points or messages for educational leaders.

  1. Focus on Tides not Waves: That we should focus on trends that will be long lasting and matter, rather than getting caught up in short term issues or challenges.
  2. Focus on Capability Building not Content Delivery: The skills and capabilities that students learn while in our care are essential for their post-school lives.
  3. Rethink the Role of the Educator: Educators should aim to be coach not rescuer, enthusiastic, empathetic, authentic, attentive and tenacious.

Of course, much of the attention of the day was also on celebrating the incredible service of ISQ Executive Director, David Robertson, who retires from this role at the end of the month.

David has been a strong advocate for Independent Schools, including Christian schooling, both in Queensland and nationally. Many of you will have experienced firsthand his support and wisdom.

CSA Queensland thanks David for his leadership of ISQ, and wish him all God's blessings into his retirement.
