The schools sector and the music bodies have agreed on the key terms of a new three year music licence that will commence on 1st January 2022.
The new licence will consolidate the three current licences (APRA, AMCOS and School Event Licence) into one music licence.
In 2022, the music licence fees will be $2.2353 (excl GST) per primary school student and $2.3590 (excl GST) per secondary student. This rate will be adjusted for CPI in each year of the agreement. Note that previously schools have received three invoices, one for each of the three music licences, but going forward schools will just receive the one invoice. It is expected that the invoice will be payable by 30th June in each year of the agreement.
The rights granted under the new music licence are similar to the rights that are granted under the current interim music licence, which expires on 31 December 2021. For information on the rights granted under the interim licence, see the Music Guide on the Smartcopying website. The Music Guide will be updated to include information on the new licence, once the drafting of the new agreement has been finalised.
