Department report on Disability Standards for Education

6th February 2024

The Australian Government Department of Education has published an implementation report on the 2020 Review of the Disability Standards for Education 2005 (the Standards). This report shows what the Australian Government has done to respond to the Review recommendations. The report can be found on the Australian Government Department of Education website.

In addition to this report, new information resources have been released on the Standards that were co-designed with people with disability with the help of Children and Young People with Disability Australia (CYDA). You can also find these resources on the Department’s website at www.education.gov.au/disability-standards-education-2005

There are four new resources:
Advocating for your child: The early years

Respect at school

Working together: Moving through secondary school

Our stories: Personal experiences of young people with disability in the education system

The resources are available in English, Easy Read English, Auslan and translated into Arabic, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Farsi, Hindi, Khmer, Korean and Vietnamese.

The content of the new resources was created by students with disability and their parents and caregivers, with help from CYDA. Development was informed by consultation with a range of disability organisations and with input from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disability and people with disability from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
